Our Horizon Aerodrome location is seeking an experienced Aerodrome Manager to support our diverse operations. This is a rotational camp position with a four (4) days on and three (3) days off, Monday to Thursday, schedule. Flights from Calgary or Edmonton and camp accommodations are provided.

 

Description:
The Aerodrome Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable daily operations of the CNRL Horizon Aerodrome. Reporting to the Director of Aerodromes and liaising with CNRL management, this position provides leadership, oversight, and direction to all aerodrome staff and contractors. The role ensures regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and the promotion of a strong safety and customer service culture.

The Aerodrome Manager directly supervises the Aerodrome Supervisors, Customer Service Agent Leads, Mechanics, Radio Operators, and Safety/QA Coordinators.

 

Responsibilities:
•    Champion a proactive safety culture by promoting hazard awareness, open reporting, and continuous improvement.
•    Oversee daily aerodrome operations, including passenger handling, aircraft refueling, aircraft ground handling, airfield maintenance, and equipment readiness, ensuring safety, reliability, and efficiency.
•    Lead by example in applying EFC’s Safety Management System (SMS), Health & Safety programs, emergency response protocols, and operational manuals.
•    Provide leadership and direction to Aerodrome Supervisors, Customer Service Agent Leads, Radio Operators, Mechanics, and Safety/QA Coordinators.
•    Manage staffing levels, recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance management to ensure a competent and engaged workforce.
•    Maintain strong communication and working relationships with CNRL, EFC management, aerodrome users, and other key stakeholders.
•    Monitor airfield conditions year-round, coordinating inspections, snow removal, wildlife control and maintenance activities to keep facilities safe and operational.
•    Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments, ensuring corrective actions are completed promptly.
•    Support employee health and well-being by promoting safe work practices, and a respectful workplace.
•    Respond effectively to operational disruptions, incidents, and emergencies.
•    Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) related to aerodrome safety, operations, and customer service.
•    Assist in preparing and managing budgets, monitoring expenditures, and ensuring efficient use of resources.
•    Ensure accurate record-keeping, documentation, and reporting of aerodrome activities.
•    Support long-term planning for personnel, equipment, and infrastructure needs.
•    Provide after-hours support on an on-call basis as required.
•    Maintain a tidy and orderly work area exhibiting pride in work performance and contributing to a healthy and safe work environment.
•    Ensure exceptional, courteous, and respectful customer service.
•    Comply with and participate in the Company’s Health & Safety and Quality programs and initiatives.
•    Perform any other duties as required.

 

Qualifications and Experience:
•    Post-secondary education in aviation, business, or a related field preferred.
•    Minimum of five years’ experience in airport or aerodrome operations, including supervisory or management experience.
•    Strong knowledge of aviation safety, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
•    Proven ability to promote and lead a strong safety and accountability culture.
•    Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and team management skills.
•    Valid class 5 driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract.  No restrictions permitted.
•    Proficiency with aerodrome reporting systems and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
•    Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
•    Ability to meet all pre-employment and site access requirements, including orientations, certifications (e.g., WHMIS, AVOP), and drug & alcohol testing.
•    Willingness to work in varying weather conditions, extended shifts, and on-call as required.
•    Professional, organized, and detail-oriented with strong decision-making skills.
•    Able to work both independently and collaboratively as a productive member of the EFC Team.
