Our Dease Lake location is seeking an experienced Airport Duty Manager to support our diverse airport operations. This is a full-time, six-month temporary position with the potential to become permanent. The role follows a 7 days on, 7 days off rotational schedule. Flights and accommodation are provided, with travel available from our designated hub locations of Vancouver, Kelowna, Calgary, and Smithers.
Description:
Reporting to the Airport Manager, the Airport Duty Manager is responsible for the overall day-to-day safe, efficient, and effective operations and supervision of the base, in the absence of the Airport Manager.
The Airport Duty Manager will oversee the workforce team which supplies a variety of airport services including airfield maintenance, wildlife control, aircraft ground handling, aircraft de/anti-icing, baggage handling, passenger services and aircraft refueling.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee and provide direction, training, and coaching of personnel carrying out airport services at the base.
• Ensure the operation meets or exceeds the Scope of Work and terms and conditions of contract(s) with the Stikine Airport Society (SAS) the client (Tahltan Nation Development Corporation) (TNDC) and any other customers.
• Ensure airport facilities are properly maintained in all weather conditions and all equipment and are in good working order.
• In cooperation with the client’s Human Resources department, assist with recruitment, terminations, and performance management of the workforce.
• Assist the Airport Manager in developing long term equipment, facility, and personnel plans for airport operations.
• As necessary, assist with airfield maintenance, ramp services, passenger services, aircraft refuelling, and aircraft de/anti-icing.
• Provide timely reporting when required (e.g., NOTAMs, Airport Movement Surface Condition Reports (AMSCRs), aircraft movement, and passenger movement, HSE reports, air carrier reports, SAS reports, Transport Canada reports, Nav Canada reports, etc.).
• Document and provide detailed records of airport activities and analyse/report on the daily, monthly, and annual key performance indicators.
• Monitor airport operational performance against goals to ensure that progress is being made and that corrective action is taken if necessary.
• Comply with and participate in the client’s Health & Safety and Quality programs and initiatives.
• Ensure all regulatory, legislative and industry standards are adhered to including Transport Canada, Canada Labour Code and OH&S regulations, standards and practices.
• Ensure compliance with corporate, site specific and customer policies and procedures, including the client’s Ground Operations Manual and Fuel Operations Manual, through staff training, guidance and by leading by example.
• Conduct regular inspections and audits of the operation, identifying and rectifying any hazards or concerns identified.
• Liaise between clients, various regulators, and respective airport societies.
• Provide training and assist the Airport Manager with quality assurance programs and records.
• In the absence of the Airport Manager, represent the client during audits and implement any corrective actions, as required.
• Attend and/or conduct toolbox, safety and other meetings or discussions as required; participate in any other specified training.
• Adhere to relevant company procedures and policies.
• Maintain a tidy and orderly work area exhibiting pride in work performance and contributing to a healthy and safe work environment.
• Ensure exceptional, courteous, and respectful customer service.
• Comply with and participate in the Company’s Health & Safety and Quality programs and initiatives.
• Perform any other duties as required.
Qualifications and Experience:
• Successful completion of a post-secondary program in a field related to the position or an acceptable combination of aviation experience, education, training and/or management experience in a strict regulatory environment.
• A minimum of five years’ experience in the aviation/airport industry, including aerodrome or airport operational experience with exposure to human resources activities.
• Demonstrated supervisory/leadership/management experience.
• Contract, budget, and facility management experience is preferred.
• Proven proficiency with airport reporting systems and programs.
• Proficient use of computer applications including MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Excellent organizational, administrative, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Able to take direction, follow instructions and adapt to changing priorities.
• Valid class 5 driver’s license and clean Driver’s Abstract. No restrictions permitted. Class 3 driver’s license is preferred.
• Pass mandatory pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and fitness for work assessment where required.
• Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
• Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally.
• Strong problem solving and decision-making skills, including the ability to exercise independent judgment.
• A strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
• Able to work in inclement weather, overtime, and extended shifts.
• Highly motivated and able to work with minimal or no supervision.
• Professional, punctual, meticulous, and diligent.
• Able to work collaboratively as a productive member of the EFC Team.
